“Cherophobia” by Hozho is a thoughtful and atmospheric composition in the spirit of Melodic Techno & House. From the first seconds of the track it becomes clear that the producer perfectly understands the peculiarities of this style. The track is built around a melancholic melody, which, like a leitmotif, permeates the whole track, creating an epic, yet sad mood.
The bass line sits deep in the mix, as it should in the style. It is neatly balanced with hi-hats and percussion, which creates space and atmosphere. Bass doesn’t pressurize the listener, but supports the overall mood of the track. At the same time synthesizers play the main role, their sound is a separate story. Hozho uses arpeggios with delays and reverb to achieve an airy yet moody sound that is characteristic of melodic techno.
If you appreciate atmospheric and emotionally intense tracks, Hozho’s Cherophobia is a must listen.

Changes between breaks and drops are done subtly, without abrupt transitions. In particular, when the track goes into a break, the space fills with atmospheric sounds, as if the world around is silenced for a moment. This creates tension and anticipation, which is perfectly resolved in the next drop. Each transition feels organic, which allows the track to not seem monotonous.
The track lacks the harsh syncopated rhythms common to more aggressive sub-genres of techno. This makes the track more accessible to a wider audience, while still retaining the depth and darkness characteristic of the genre. Hozho also avoids excessive repetition of sections. Even though the track is long, the structure is varied and each new element is introduced with the dynamics of the composition in mind. This shows a high level of skill on the part of the producer.
“Cherophobia” shows a mature approach to the Melodic Techno & House style. Hozho, using minimal but expressive elements, was able to convey complex emotional states.
