‘Work’ opens the EP and immediately plunges you into a dark sound, full of straight beat and hard bass. From the first seconds you can feel the classic Tech House foundation: a 4/4 beat, clearly trimmed hi-hats and a slightly distorted kick. This creates a dynamic and rocking rhythm that makes it hard to exhale.
We recently talked about Jewel Kid’s track The Key, and now he’s back with a new release on In Rotation by Insomniac Music Group. The Work EP is a concentrated blend of energetic tech-house vibes with searing atmospheres and a weighty groove.

Bass is the basis of everything here. It is “fat”, with low attack and good compression, so as not to drown the overall groove. You can feel the texture in it, which seems to push you to move, hooks you and holds you throughout the track. The bass doesn’t just seem to support the rhythm, it seems to drive the track forward.
Drops are highlighted by experimental elements. They include vocal samples that sound like jerky commands that add an aggressive touch to the track. These are not the vocals that lead the entire melody, but rather additional accents that add to the overall pressure and harshness of the track. Cut, dirty and often even jerky, these samples add rigidity and a characteristic touch of chaos.
In order not to overload the mix, but still keep the energy, in Work Jewel Kid minimizes melodic elements. The author almost never uses atmospheric pads or open reverbs. This narrows the soundstage, making it tense and limited in width and depth. This approach creates pressure and a “locked-in” sound effect, where all frequencies are tightly packed and rhythmically focused on the bass and midrange. It’s as if there is no space for “rest” in the mix.
To summarize, Work is a track for those who appreciate Tech House groove and pressure in its purest form. No compromises in the arrangement – only tight bass, clear beat and aggressive mood.
