Percussion is simple but precisely built. The hi-hats and claps sound dry, adding space but not loading the mix. Here you can feel the classic sidechain compression technique: the kicks clearly cut through the percussion, leaving room for rhythmic pulsation. Interestingly, the kicks are not overloaded and sound short, which again hints at the minimalistic approach.
The synthesizer inserts sound strange and experimental. Synths are scattered around the mix chaotically, their modulations not always logical. But it works – the track gets the right “crazy” atmosphere, which corresponds to the title. Layers of synthesizers seem to deliberately disorient, creating an effect of slight absurdity. Periodic filter cuts give hints of deeper sound, but they immediately disappear, leaving the groove at the forefront.
Transitions are minimal. There are no big breaks or pads, just short stabs and tricky filter cuts. Sometimes you get the impression that the track moves in a circle rather than in depth. This is a characteristic technique that can be boring on the dancefloor if the track is played too long in a set without mixing.
Overall impression: “Stooopid” is an experimental mix of TechHouse and Minimal, but with a strong emphasis on groove. It may be suitable for a warm up set, but it’s unlikely to hold your attention for a long time. The track shows a mastery of rhythm, but lacks a bit of dynamics in production.
